The QISS group is expanding. There are a number of positions available as faculty, research fellows and phd students. See below for more information.

Phd Fellowships

Phd Opportunities in Quantum Science & Technology

Are you considering postgraduate studies in Quantum Science & Technology?

Macquarie University Quantum Information Science and Security group is seeking talented PhD students in both theory and experiment. Generous national and international scholarships are available, as well as relocation costs in some cases.  The group offers a range of topics and expertise in quantum science and technology including quantum algorithms, open quantum systems, optical quantum computing, device characterisation, quantum gravity and experimental quantum technologies in diamond.

Interested applicants should email a CV, including an academic transcript and the names of two referees to qstudies@gmail.com.

Interested applicants might consider registering to attend the Asher Peres School we are running. See this website http://web.mac.com/quests/PeresSchool/Welcome.html

For further information and to explore the research interests of the staff please see the  research page and the staff pages.

Faculty Positions

Thanks to the recent round of new faculty allocations (the University created 40 new faculty posts), the QISS group is seeking faculty in experimental quantum science.

More specifically: (from the advertising material)

Macquarie University's Concentration of Research Excellence in Quantum Information Science and Security (QISS), currently comprises of eight staff with expertise in theoretical and experimental quantum science.  The QISS group includes faculty from physics, computer science, and engineering and participates in large research projects such as the Centre for Quantum Computer Technology (Australian Research Council), Qubit Applications (European Commission), and a number of other multinational projects in quantum information science. The physics department is also host to substantial research efforts in photonics (including participation in the ARC Centre of Excellence CUDOS), astronomy and condensed matter physics.

The The University wishes to expand the experimental component of the QISS research effort and is offering two continuing posts (level B/C: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer), in experimental quantum science. Applicants with expertise in the areas of:

  • experimental quantum optics
  • quantum communications,
  • condensed matter quantum science including
    • quantum dots,
    • superconducting quantum science,
    • diamond related quantum science, or in
  • experimental quantum science using
    • trapped neutral or charged atoms,

are particularly invited to apply.

Research Fellows

*Closed*

Two new Postdoc posts are now available in the QISS group. The posts are to work in the area of quantum information theory: More specifically, from the advertising material:

The Department of Physics seeks applicants to join its Quantum Information Science and Security (QISS) research group. The QISS group, with nine staff, engages in theoretical and experimental investigations of the use and applications of quantum information. The group is primarily funded by the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in Quantum Computer Technology (CQCT), and Macquarie University. CQCT (www.qcaustralia.org) is an Australian multi-university collaboration undertaking research on the fundamental physics and technology of building, at the atomic level, a solid state quantum computer in silicon and in the building of optical quantum information processors. The Macquarie University contribution to this Centre of Excellence is to theoretically develop, in a more hardware independent manner, potential applications for small-scale quantum processing devices. Potential applicants with backgrounds in quantum simulations, or topological quantum information science, or quantum error correction or in the theory of condensed matter quantum information science or optical quantum information science or quantum optics are particularly encouraged to apply.

The posts are for 2yrs, and at Levels C (equiv to Sen Lect) and B/A (equiv to Lecturer).
